A client of mine encountered a problem with Outlook 2007 and CRM 4.0. Outlook was constantly restarting with the following error:

Microsoft Office Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
We have created an error report that you can send to help us improve Office Outlook. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.

The problem was caused by CRM 4.0 Outlook client. It seems that client will crash Outlook if there are contacts with birthdate prior to 1/1/1970. Here you will find a hotfix for this issue.

We used a simple workaround instead, cleared all birthdates that are prior to 1/1/1970.
