While configuring SharePoint 2010 for a client we encountered the following error in the search crawl logs:

The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070422)

Had no idea how to fix it because all the SharePoint services were up and running. Finally after a long and boring troubleshooting we finally realized this problem was caused by Microsoft® File Server Resource Management Service Host service used by the File Server.


In case your SharePoint is also a file server make sure all the file server services are enabled and running before crawling. (Unfortunately I have no clue how search and this service are related).
