Understanding SharePoint adoption with SPDocKit 9

I recently interviewed a lot of candidates for a position in our marketing department. These people came from various backgrounds like auto, retail, digital agencies and much more. I was really astonished how many people used SharePoint in their companies to share files and collaborate with colleagues. In the corporate world, SharePoint is everywhere.

When we started working on SPDocKit v1 our goal was to provide SharePoint administrators with comprehensive documentation and inventory of their SharePoint farm infrastructure. We now have all the thousands of settings large and small documented for everything one can configure in a SharePoint environment.

In v9 our focus shifted from just documenting inventory to proving IT departments with more details on SharePoint adoption. SharePoint might be available as a service to workers in companies across the globe but the question remains: “Which of my SharePoint sites are actually being used?”.

To help you solve this mystery we focused on a couple of key areas to help you solve it:

  • Total number of hits to your farm
  • Total number of active users within the chosen time period
  • Top search terms
  • Total of searches
  • Abandoned searches, searches that yielded no results
  • Number of views and updates per document (or SharePoint List item)
  • Number of different actions on top of documents like deletions
  • The time when the document (list item) was last viewed
  • Storage Metrics and storage usage predictions

For full list of reports check our SPDocKit documentation.

We packed all these all these information into a series of fancy dashboards, charts, and reports. SPDocKit provides a tremendous benefit to IT Departments and other departments in charge of SharePoint adoption as it provides a clear high-level picture but also many more detailed reports on individual list item/document level.
